Pam Stenzel’s “Sex has a Price Tag” and Fusebox
We took the junior high youth to a youth speaker tonight. She is a nationally known speaker by the name of Pam Stenzel. She is widely recognized by her talk “Sex has a Price Tag.” She gave a fabulous talk about abstinence and the dangers of sex outside of marriage. She was very strait forward and did a great job of communicating the truth about sex.
One of the great things about working with Junior High students is that much of your ministry is preventive. It is privilege to be able to persuade and influence students to steer clear of harmful things in their lives. I pray that the message spoken tonight stick with them when they are faced with temptation regarding sex.
Fusebox also played at the event. They had a very talented singer that reminded me a bit of Tait.
It was colder today, so it was more difficult to get outside. Right now my plan is to keep walking this week and then starting next week start jogging a mile then walking a mile. I will probably run one or two races this year to keep me motivated.
the amazing race and american idol tonight
Tonight we have a big 2 hour episode of the Amazing Race. My guess is that tonight will not be an elimination round. I think the show is due for that. However my prediction for tonight is that Meredith and Gretchen will come in last. From the previews this looks like it is going to be a crazy episode. We are going to have cars flipping over and people heads bleeding.
I’m not sure what tonight’s theme is for American Idol. My comments were wrong about Nadia being in the top 4. If she doesn’t do well tonight she may be going home. So I am going to put Anthony in the top four with…Bo, Anwar, and Carrie.
The weather is finally nice and it is time to get back in shape. This year I am too out of shape to just start running again. So today I walked to Subway for a lite lunch. I probably will have short posts over these next few months to help me track my progress. If you don’t see many posts like this is means I’m not walking/jogging. Help keep me accountable.
easter ends up being a pretty low-key day
This year’s Easter ended up being fairly low key. I had very little responsibility at church this morning. We did not have Sunday school so I didn’t have to worry about that. I just did announcements and helped with communion. We had our service off-site this morning at our local Civic Center ballroom. This proved to be a pretty good idea as we then only had one service. (we normally have 3) Attendance was bigger than most Easters. On a normal Sunday we have about 600 in attendance. This morning they figured the numbers were around 1100. For us, that is huge. I don’t think we were ready for that sort of response. We didn’t have enough seats! It was a pretty cool problem.
After that my family and I headed to China Buffet, were we ate all the fried MSG food we could eat. Yahoo!
Then we spent the afternoon with my parents playing Texas holdem’ and watching some exciting NCCA basketball. Way to go Big Ten!
This coming week brings the 30 Hour Famine. I am a little nervous about this year because it looks like we are going to have a ton of students in attendance. I hope we are able to feed lots of kids through the experience. I need more volunteers to pull it off.
my feelings on moving: update.
So it has been almost a month since I was asked by a pastor to consider taking a position in his church. About two weeks ago I told him yes that I would consider it, and now he is waiting for my resume. However, at this point I really have very little desire to enter the kind of ministry that he is suggesting. If I have very little heart and desire about it, does that mean that I am probably not called to it? Although, I know if I go there and check it out, I may get excited by the prospect. I am fairly content where I am, but it hasn’t always felt that way. Some days I feel like I just need to get out of here. I know the Lord will make it clear to me, or maybe he won’t and I will just have to trust my “gut” or step out in faith.
I guess right now I’m feeling I want something different, but not too different. I also really have little desire to pack up and move away from our city. Oh dear..what to do?
